Paint Exchange and Collection Program

The WCSWD Xchange program has been eliminated until further notice.  You can bring your oil-based and acrylic paints to the District's scheduled Tox-Away events. Latex paint will not be accepted. See the  instructions below for drying out your latex paint for disposal.

Latex Paint

Latex Paint can be safely disposed in your trash once it is dried out. To dry out your latex paint, follow these easy steps:

  1. Mix the paint you have left in the can with an equal amount of cheap, clay kitty litter. DO NOT USE THE CLUMPING KIND! If you have ½ can or less, mix it right in the can. If it won’t all fit in the can, line a cardboard box with a trash bag, put the kitty litter in the bottom and pour the paint on top.
  2. Let mixture sit uncovered until it is completely dry – one or two days should do it.
  3. Once the paint is completely dry, it is safe to go out with your regular trash. Be sure to leave the lids off of the paint cans so that sanitation workers can see that it is dry.
