What are Tox-Away Days?

Tox-Away Days are annual events sponsored by West Central Solid Waste District (WCSWD) that provide Montgomery, Parke, and Putnam County residents with the opportunity to safely and inexpensively dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW). HHW is a term that describes the waste associated with a wide variety of chemical cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, paints/stains, auto fluids/filters, and other toxic materials used in homes, automobiles, and lawn/gardens. Small or mixed items should be brought in open/visible boxes or crates and not in dark trash bags for worker safety.

We accept electronics such as computers, cell phones, gaming consoles, etc. which can no longer be thrown in the trash. Bring your electronics and appliances to a Tox-Away Day free of charge (exception: $20 fee any size TV’s). Tox-Away Days are also the perfect opportunity to dispose of tires that are lying around collecting water that can turn into mosquito breeding grounds. Click Here for printable flyer listing acceptable items along with a pricing chart for free or reduced price tires and limits. All Tox-Away events are open to residents of all 3 counties.

Residents are asked not to bring latex paint for disposal as it is water-based and not hazardous. Latex paint should be dried out by mixing with equal parts of cheap kitty litter or sand and set out with your trash once it is in solid form with lid removed.
